On the 6th September, Nishan Dzhingozyan and Feryal Clark MP organised an event for the Bulgarian community in Enfield to come together to commemorate the Unification Day of Bulgaria and Eastern Rumelia. This is a significant day in Bulgarian history.
They discussed the past, present and future of the relationship between our countries and the challenges faced by Bulgarians choosing to live here and how ECP help through the Bulgarian Community Project. Panellists at the event received many questions related to integration of Bulgarians into everyday life in Enfield. This is a very important issue as there are 75,000 local residents in Enfield from a European background with 25,000 from a Bulgarian background.
Guests were made up of representatives from Enfield's Bulgarian Community, ECP, the WRC, Settled, The Bulgarian Embassy, the Labour party, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Houndsfield Primary School, Luton Roma Trust, the Bulgarian News Agency and others attending.
Discussions were had about the EU Settlement Scheme and the challenges many parents from our network of schools are facing and how we can work more effectively with partner organisations with our CEO Trevor Blackman highlighting the importance of working in partnership with Bulgarian schools and the Bulgarian institutions.
