Health Heroes Unite

Launched in 2024, this project builds on work done by the Eastern European Hub and #Whatif, recognising that health is an underlying factor for all of our families and accessing services can be challenging. Many of our families cannot register with a GP or a dentist; many only use the NHS when it is an emergency; some fly to their home countries for healthcare taking time off work/school to do so.

In year 1, ECP, along with a range of partners, co-ordinated a series of health events in ECP schools and the wider Enfield community to engage families, ask them what they need, connect them with services and information and register them with GPs. These events were attended by health professionals looking to connect with the community and to support residents to look after their health and wellbeing. This is a partnership between healthcare and the community, facilitated by our team.

The events targeted vulnerable communities who engage with our outreach team and other underserved communities, with the support of other local organisations.

As an integral part of the offering, we have been running a fund which can be applied to by other groups or schools to run their own health events, allowing them to focus on what they feel is most important, whether it’s preventative care, opportunities to run some exercise, healthy eating classes or hold a community meeting.

In year 2, we plan to run a youth forum, overseen by our experienced facilitator, Shae Eccleston, to understand what our younger communities need, how they access health information and identify any barriers they experience. All of our learnings will help the NHS to shape their local services.

Our Year 2 theme, Heart Health, impacts more than just the heart. With data showing rises in conditions such as dementia, lung disease, diabetes, CVD, HBP, obesity, high cholesterol, chronic kidney disease and mental health conditions, there is a pressing need to address barriers to access, as well as to promote preventative approaches to wellness.

This theme encourages members of every community to seek, learn and share in order to live healthy and lengthy lives.

We are proud to share the fact that in 2025, the HHU project is working in Partnership with The Bridge Renewal Trust to deliver some events around heart health.

Public events are listed below. For sessions where attendance may appear to be limited, please email Saray or Shae to find out more.
