SALT

We’ve used funding from Children in Need to support a few different initiatives in Edmonton, all to help improve the way we communicate with each other.

Communication Club is aimed at children with communication difficulties who need a bit of extra help. We work with an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to provide in-school sessions for the children that need it most. Through these classes, kids improve their confidence in using and understanding language as well as help with developing social skills and building relationships.

Find Your Voice are holding a series of workshops for both students and teachers. The students will learn about speaking with a confident, authentic voice during a day of games and structured exercises. The aim is to equip our students with the skills to speak up in the classroom and beyond. Afterwards, the teachers had training sessions on the same ideas to keep track of the kids and integrate the learning points into their day-to-day teaching.

Debate Training has been provided to small groups of children, culminating in a borough-wide debate competition. While some of our parents have been worried their children will get too good at arguing, learning how to debate is a fantastic way of considering multiple points of view, as well as forming an effective argument. Heats will take place in February and March before the big final finds our debate champions.
